Regression bug in GNU Make 3.82

Hi David,
GNU Make 3.82 introduced a regression [1][2] in the parsing of archive
libraries. This was fixed with commits 5acda13 [3] and b06b8c6 [4] in
Make 4.0.
The regression is causing dev86, a build dependency of LILO, to fail to
build.
We can either prepare and apply a patch to Make 3.82 or update the gmake
package to 4.0. Do you want to do this? Or should I do it?
